March 22th, 2017

On March 18, 2017, TOYOKEIKI Co., Ltd. (Matsumoto/Nagano) agreed a contract with Titas Gas Co., Ltd., a natural gas supplier in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, for 210,000 prepaid gas meters. The executives of Titas Gas Co., Ltd. and the director of TOYOKEIKI, Kiyotaka Miyahara, signed on the agreement.

There are abundant reserves of natural gas in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi tends to be wasted for unlimited use because of flat rate. Because the demand of gas for power supply and industry is rapidly increasing, there is a danger of a serious energy shortage in the future and gas resource depletion.

Because of those background, Bangladesh government decided to adopt a prepaid gas meter for efficient gas use.

This project is a part of JICA's; "Natural Gas Efficiency Project" (Yen loan, signed by L/A in June 2014). It aims to control the amount of gas used and establish a fair fee system.

Since November 2014, a prepaid meter test has been tested in Bangladesh, and the effect has been proved, and government decided to install prepaid gas meters, 200,000 in Dhaka City and 60,000 in Chittagong City. The total was 210,000 units in Dhaka City, a large order after 60,000 units in Chittagong City.

In 2016, preliminary bids and actual bids were held with 13 companies from the United States, China, Italy, and Vietnam. TOYOKEIKI made a successful bid for both technology and price and reached a contract.

TOYOKEIKI has designed a new system for Bangladesh. Prepaid card can be held over the reader of the gas meter, which Felica System is embedded, and gas can be used only for the charged amount. The total amount is about 4 billion yen, and the delivery will start from the end of April 2017. The mass production of 60,000 meters for Chittagong which bided in January is already started.
